Google Maps gets Picture-in-Picture feature on Android Oreo
Google Maps announced on Monday (28) a very interesting feature for users. After testing functionality in the beta version of the application, the company has made available an update to the stable version of Google Maps with Picture-in-Picture (PiP), which lets you navigate the application on a floating screen in the system. The new feature, however, will be exclusive to devices with Android Oreo.
The feature will allow users to view navigation with a small screen in the corner of their smartphone as they navigate through other applications and other system features. The novelty is very useful for those who seek other information, but can not fail to visualize the route of travel in Google Maps. By using the feature, the small screen continues to display basic information and instructions such as the name of streets and highways and the estimated time of arrival.
In order to use the feature, the user must have a device with Android Oreo 8.0 and Google Maps version 9.60, which is already available for download in the Google Play Store. Still, some users have complained that they are not successful using Picture-in-Picture of the application or that it is not even working yet. Because the feature was recently released, just like the latest version of Android, it's likely that some glitches still have to be fixed by Google.
In addition to PiP, version 9.60 of Google Maps also features other news, such as creating personal notes, food notes and photos (which works as a kind of online restaurant menu so users can view photos of the place when they are In the vicinity), event creation (intended for business owners wishing to promote events in their establishments) and shortcuts that allow quick access to the features most used in Google Maps.
